If you’re a homeowner in , it’s important to know the signs of a sewer line problem. Sewer lines can be very difficult to fix, so it’s best to address any issues as soon as possible. Here are five common sewer line problems and how to fix them.

1. Clogs

Many different things, such as tree roots, excess grease, or feminine hygiene products, cause clogs in sewer lines. If you notice that your drains are slow to drain or that water is backing up into your sink or tub, then you might have this issue.

2. Leaks

Leaks can occur when the seals around the sewer pipe joints wear out over time. If you notice that your yard is wetter than usual or if you can see water bubbling up through the ground, then you likely have a leak in your sewer line.

3. Damaged Pipes

Tree roots growing into the pipes or excess pressure from snow or ice buildup can make a sewer line pipe burst. Just as with the leaks, you may notice water bubbling from the ground. You may also notice your grass is greener in spots.

4. Sewer Gas

When water and some waste materials mix, they cause sewer gas that can be very dangerous to you and the environment. If you smell a strong sewer-like odor in your home, then you likely have this problem. If you don’t act soon, the gas can even build up and burst the pipes.

5. Offset Joints

If you don’t install sewer pipe properly, offset joints will result, which will cause blockages and leaks. If your drains seem clogged or aren’t draining well, then you likely have an offset joint in your sewer line.

As you can see, many different problems can occur with sewer lines. Call HRI Plumbing today if you notice any of the signs mentioned above, and our expert team will diagnose the problem and fix it promptly.
